I am a believer in philanthropic giving because accumulating wealth just for the sake of it, is neither fulfilling nor a sufficient means to an end. In other words, part of the joy of achieving wealth is in the giving. I believe in giving so that I can help enable and impact the lives of others to have the same opportunities that I have had.
Much of my giving is to local nonprofits and community partners to create a better Orange County. The community we live in is where we spend the majority of our time in the world. It is a large part of our network and relationships, and I believe that giving back to our community is actively investing in a better quality of life for ourselves and others.
I am passionate about causes that support children, and I believe in creating a world where all kids can thrive. One cause that is especially close to my heart is the anti-bullying movement. As a child, I experienced bullying that left mental and emotional scars. It took decades for me to finally get to a place where I could talk about it, and now, a place where I can help drive awareness for anti-bullying through Kindness Kures.
The first annual Kindness Kures Fall Benefit in 2019 featured a wine tasting tournament, where guests were educated and entertained while enjoying and learning about wine. Angeline, Capiaux, and Daou wine were all proud event partners. The winner of the wine tasting tournament won a weekend in a 2020 Karma Revero GT, which was generously provided by Karma Automotive and Karma Newport Beach.
The Kindness Kures Mission
Nationwide, about 20% of students ages 12-18 have experienced bullying, and every day, 160,000 kids skip school because of bullying. Sadly, almost 70% of students believe schools respond poorly to bullying and find adult help infrequent and ineffective. Through Kindness Kures, we aim to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of bullying and support anti-bullying programs in our local schools.
Proceeds from our 2019 benefit supported the Ability Awareness Project, which provides anti-bullying education and presentations for parents, educators, and students in Orange County. AAP strives not only to identify and put a stop to all types of bullying, but also move towards developing our next generation of leaders and peacemakers.
